Antique 1835 Catholic Prayer Book – Thomas à Kempis Imitation of Christ – Green Velvet Cover, Metal Clasp and Holy Cards

A beautiful antique Catholic devotional and prayer book published in 1835:

“Vier Bücher von der Nachfolge Christi” by Thomas von Kempen, together with a complete prayer book inspired by The Imitation of Christ.

According to the title page, this is the eighth edition with six illustrations, printed and published by Gebrüder Karl und Nikolaus Benziger in Einsiedeln. The title page also mentions Benziger and Meyer in New York.

The small book features a dark green velvet-like cover decorated with gold-tone metal corner fittings and an ornamental clasp. Its traditional German Fraktur typeface, religious illustrations and naturally aged appearance give it wonderful historical character.

The set also includes the two antique devotional holy cards shown in the photographs.
