Antique Virgin Mary Oil Painting , Original Biedermeier Frame , 19th Century Religious Art ,Madonna Immaculata, European Antique

Details

A beautiful and highly decorative antique oil painting of the Virgin Mary, presented in an elaborate historic Biedermeier frame.
The painting depicts the Virgin Mary as the Immaculate Conception (Immaculata), dressed in a flowing white robe and deep blue mantle and surrounded by delicate stars. At her feet are a crescent moon, clouds and two cherubs.
The soft colours, graceful composition and serene expression of the Madonna give the painting a wonderfully peaceful and devotional character.
The work is painted in oil on canvas and is complemented by an impressive Biedermeier frame featuring elaborate floral ornamentation, an oval inner surround and an aged gilt finish.
The frame was verbally identified as Biedermeier during an assessment at Dorotheum. Please note that no written certificate or appraisal accompanies the piece.
Both the painting and frame retain visible signs of their considerable age. The painted surface displays natural craquelure, minor irregularities and other age-related traces. The reverse, old canvas, wooden construction, fixings and hanging hardware also retain their historic appearance.
These signs of age have deliberately not been concealed and contribute greatly to the authentic character and charm of the piece.
The exact date of the painting and the identity of the artist are unknown. The frame dates from the Biedermeier period; the painting itself has not been independently scientifically dated.
A wonderful statement piece for collectors and admirers of European antiques, religious art, Marian iconography, Biedermeier interiors and historic oil paintings.
It would look particularly beautiful in a traditional farmhouse, country house, historic interior, private chapel or collection of European religious art.
